When I saw that H.R. Burkett was looking for ARC readers for Peckers: The Pact, I applied.
The title caught my attention, but so did the opportunity to read more of her work.
Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to read another one of Burkett’s stories, Kissed: A Toadily True Tale (coming in 2027), and shared my thoughts, questions, and excitement with her. After reading that story, I knew I wanted to experience more of her writing.
I also had no idea at the time that Peckers was part of a series. As I learned more about the project and saw how far Burkett had already planned ahead, complete with publication dates for future books, my excitement only grew.
Needless to say, I was thrilled when I received the email letting me know I had been selected as an ARC reader.
That afternoon, I sat down expecting to read a few chapters before taking a break and deciding what to make for dinner. Instead, the story completely hooked me. I could not put the book down, even while snacking between chapters. "Girl dinner"; won out because I ended up finishing the entire book in that afternoon and into the evening.
The book did not disappoint.
I highly recommend Peckers: The Pact, and I am already looking forward to the rest of the
series. As someone who loves reading series, especially when familiar characters continue to appear throughout future books, I quickly became invested in the characters and their journeys.
I am excited to see how both the characters and the overall storyline continue to develop.
The best part? Readers will not have to wait long. The remaining books in the series are
scheduled to release between now and early 2027.
Three Reasons Readers Will Connect with Peckers: The Pact
1. The Relationships Feel Real
At its core, this story is about relationships. From friendships to romantic connections, the book explores the many ways people impact one another throughout different parts of life.
As I read, I found myself relating to various situations and emotions experienced by the
characters. Their reactions felt authentic, and many moments prompted me to reflect on my own experiences and relationships. Even after finishing the book, I found myself thinking about certain scenes, conversations, and themes long afterward.
2. Unexpected Twists and Turns
I am not here to spoil anything.
The best authors know how to keep readers engaged, whether through a surprising chapter ending or an unexpected moment in the middle of a scene. Throughout the story, I found myself trying to predict what would happen next.
I was wrong.
And honestly, that was one of my favorite parts.
Burkett consistently introduced twists that I did not see coming while carefully building the story and capturing the details along the way.
3. The Bonus Content Is Worth Exploring
Who doesn't love bonus content?
One of my favorite surprises was discovering the additional content that accompanies the book.
It became immediately clear how much time, energy, and heart Burkett has invested not only in this book but in the entire series.
The bonus content creates an interactive and immersive experience that allows readers to connect with the story on a deeper level. I highly recommend setting aside time to fully explore it rather than rushing through.
I know I will be revisiting it before Book #2 releases.
Burkett certainly did not have to include this level of detail and engagement, and it is the firsttime I have read a book that made me feel so connected to the setting, the characters, and the overall world she has created.
Final Thoughts
I have genuinely enjoyed supporting indie authors lately, and Burkett is absolutely one of thoseauthors whose work I will continue to follow. As a local author, supporting her work feels even more meaningful.
